Yes Schefflera arboricola can take a little frost, I used to grow a couple in my garden in Southsea, but lower than around -2C kills them. I did have one that was defoliated & came back once, but when it was defoliated again it killed it... I have a little one that was already planted in my garden here in Malta & there is a huge one growing infront of a hotel round the corner, will try & post some pics soon...
