Original Eddoe in the centre is hollow and rotted, but are the two side shoots coming out of separate corms?

Also how impressive they have made it so far





Also this is another Colcasia of some type not sure whats going on here though, its next to the bamboo grove...

wow cordy, thats brilliant. the one you sent me is in the greenhouse, its still alive, upto 2 weeks ago it was still in leaf but after a few frosts the leave's have shrivled a bit but im pretty sure its still alive

cut the rot off the top so the new leaves can emerge a bit easier and off they will go

I left 3 outside in the ground and 2 in pots and 1 in a pot in the greenhouse. They all had leaves until a month ago, but have new shoots coming through. They were from Tesco too, must be a variety that can take some damp wet when dormant!

I think you were lucky with the non-winter. Planted deeply and in good drainage then perhaps they would pull through a normal winter but then struggle to grow well. 1 of my eddoes has went dormant (lots of Perlite in the mix, perhaps too much), 1 struggled and the others gone strength to strength (inside up by window). Never seen them in my local Tesco...I had to go hunting for them in 'diverse' parts of the country.

I couldn't find one any in any stores in my area, found them by dumb look at my girlfriends parents in Milton Keynes.

Despite the milder winter, Mine from Morrisons turned to a mush back in December.

I decided to investigate mine today, and under the mush of the original root is a healthy eddoe! Infact there are two, so I've potted them up and brought them in the house.

I've inspected mine today also and they are pretty mushy to be honest, so I have removed all the crud and there is a new shoot coming through underneath. One of the potted ones still has a leaf and is pushing out another, the ground planted ones have not fared as well, but after such a wet winter its still a good result.

The loss of a parent corm is probably normal when some healthy side shoots will break early in the season. One of my potted ones in the greenhouse has two new plants growing either side of a mushed centre.

Tesco eddoes came through well for many members in winter 2007/8 but need to be well drained if cold.

Cordy, the reddish Colocaisa is probably Pink China if you had one of those.
