Rokeby Hall Conservatory restoration

Post by JeffYoung »

Cordyman was asking for some more pics, which seemed like a good idea.

Quick background: the house was built in 1785 by Francis Johnston for Richard Robinson, the Archbishop of Armagh. Some 2 or 3 generations later (we believe around 1850), the Robinsons added a Turner cast- and wrought-iron conservatory to the back of the house. Both the conservatory and the house were in need of considerable attention when we acquired the property in 1995; the house took the bulk of our efforts for the first 15 years. We started on the conservatory in the summer of 2012.

My wife has most of the pics on her computer, so it might take a few days to get the thread rolling. But here are a couple I managed to dig off of my computer, all prior to the restoration being started:

PS: I wasn't sure whether this section was the right place for it, or the blog section. I went with here since it will have a finite length (the restoration is now complete), but if the mods want to move it that's fine too.
