I saw this lovely spider lily (?) in Weston today. So much colour in mid November. I think its a Crinum Amabile (but would be happy to be corrected) and so have spent a while this evening looking for somewhere in the UK that sells the bulbs. No luck at all though. Does anyone know where they can be bought?

I think that is Nerine bowdenii.

The 'straight' species is available from most on line bub sellers, for example.

Named forms have been selected by the Dutch for cut flowers and are beginning to become available.

It is the best autumn flowering bulb that I have ever grown.

Hardy and reliable, but often flowers the first year it is planted and then sulks for a couple of years while it gets established.

This year's flowers were initiated two years ago, which explains why it sulks for what seems too long after replanting.

It likes a dry summer rest, so in Cornwall does better at the foot of a south facing wall. It should just need full sun in central England.

Order now. They will have leaves in the spring and won't move well then.

Ideally they should have been planted in August or there about.

Bought now they may well try to flower. I'm told late plantings do better if you cut off any attempts it makes to flower now.

You want them to make roots. But they seem to grow leaves this season, and roots next season and then set flower buds that take another two years to flower.

But once they are settled;

I appreciate the advice Chad but all suppliers are either saying "out of stock" or available from Jan/Feb March onwards. Great picture. They just seem like the perfect plant for keeping interest in the garden once everything else is being put to bed.

The link I've put above says 'despatched within 7 days' as well as 'Despatch by end of January 2019'.

I ordered some on Monday, I'll post when they arrive.

Just joined here, I may have some bulbs left.... grow like weeds here and I tend to pull them up and compost them. I have a look in the potting shed and see if there are any viable ones left. :)

I have a pink one still struggling on in flower in the snow now. It's a shame that they only seem to come in pastel shades (no hot reds, oranges, or yellows).

Nerine sarniensis will give you the hotter colours but it less hardy.

Even in Cornwall it appreciates being grown under [unheated] cover.
