I can't recall discussion regarding the differences with crown fiber as it emerges and becomes visible. Here are two examples from my garden, both are Trachycarpus fortunei at roughly the same age.
One shows a tight and gathered pattern, the other loose, hairy and a rather open habit.
Just another in the vast variation in this genus.

Sad person that I am, I have just been out to look at my trachies. I have both, but the more fluffy, hariy types are on large leaved fortunei, where as the the other type are on smaller leaved more waggie-ish looking palms. Just an obsevation
