I've found Washie's Mum :0)

Post by Dave Brown »

After hours and hours of searching images, and searching again and again. I have finally found a pic on the web with Washie's Mum in it. icon_thumright I thought one must exist somewhere as she was in a promeneant position. I didn't think to take a pic at the time as just grabbed a couple of dozen seeds off the ground, and didn't ever believe I'd have a 10 foota 17 years later

Here is Washie's Mum from the Bouganville Playa Hotel, Playa de las Americas, Tenerife, where we were staying in back in 1992.

Dave where is this place? Are you planning on a family reunion sometime? Maybe a little brother or sister for young Washie?

Impressive palm for 17 years but had little Washie grown up in Australia he/she would have been 5 times that height by now at least!

But as you know palms wont grow in the UK. Its just far too cold!

Sean, It is at Playa de las Americas, Tenerife. I've added that to the first post now. Provenance has nothing to do with it's hardiness as Mum is growing in the warmest part of Tenerife, 28N at near as damn it, sea level.

We are planning a family reunion a human one, for our Silver wedding, as we spent our Honeymoon just around the corner, but poor Washie will have to say at home. No mother's day visits for him

JB, I'll have to look at Google street map then, but it is not a street it is a walkway with loads of steps so their camera car would have had to have been on foot to get this in.
Best regards
