Wish I was in SW US Jim, at least I'd be looking forward to a summer

More blue skies icon_thumright

Here is an panaramic view of the west side. It may surprise some of you that my garden is not huge, at about 65/75 feet long (depending where you measure, by 45/50 feet wide.

There are a few big gaps where things like the TRex will fill eventually, and obviously none of the summer plants are out yet with the cold nights we are having. Normally Musa basjoo has put in an appearance but all stems in the back have been cut to the ground. An odd year really

Nice pics, Skelding. Did you know that the Acacia is most likely A. melanoxylon (Blackwood), because they grow with Dicksonia antarctica in habitat. I have one which I acquired by the same route as you, but mine is only about 6 ft tall and potted. I don't have the space to plant out such a big tree. I may guerilla plant it in a local park at some stage. It's nice to see a mature one. How long have you had it?

Bobby the Vivax has been in the ground for around 9~10 years, I remove some of the previous years growth once the new culms start coming through. I also remove all the branches to a height of around 6 foot. I have also had phyllostachys vivax aureocaulis in the ground for the same number of years, but it is a slower grower and does not push out the large culms that are seen on the normal vivax.

Simon, they grow pretty quickly, mine has put on all that growth in around 8~9 years  , thanks for the identification.

Neal, that Cycad is quite large for the size of the pot  Mine in the ground has a similar size trunk but larger leaves. I think you've bonsai'd it

My Trex has also lost it's top growth, but is making up for it in pup production this spring. You might need to have a search around up to 10 feet away.
