Unusual Palms

Post by JoelR »

Is anyone growing Phoenix Loureirii? The only place I've seen seed available is Chiltern Seeds who say it should tolerate hard frosts. My seed grown plants are now 3 years old and are intended for eventual permanent outdoor planting. I would be interested to know if anyone has tested the hardiness of this plam.

I also have six year old seedlings of Nannorhops Ritchiana - very slow growing and only just growing it's first true leaf. There's no danger of it outgrowing it's frost free winter quarters any time soon but I would be interested to hear other peoples experience of this palm.

Don't bother with the Phoenix from Chilterns,I bought 2 packets, whole lot rotted in the propagator. That Phoenix will tolerate light frosts only.

Reason: This is one person's opinion based on 2 packets of seed
