I need a man with a van - Essex to Cambs

24 inches of thick clay, bricks & cement....

I have never dug down that deeply, but, after 24 inches, the clay layer abruptly stopped, and good earth was beneath.

I have excavated more than half dozen builders bag's of clay, and back filled with a quality soil, mixed with slow release feed.
Hopefully both Trachys will like their new home after being stuck in a pot for the past 9 years.......

The Begonia was moved ( ) from the fern area, as I have plans for some changes down that end of the garden....

Thanks Adam & Nigel,
It was a bit of aggravation getting the delivered, then planted, but I do now feel that they were worth all the efforts... 8)

Being new to HT, I've just read this story from beginning to end - brilliant - you could write a book about it!
Your garden looks great. Well worth the effort. You must be really pleased with your bargains!

Thank you for the comments guys...

Yes, very happy with how they have given the garden a more established feel with their height, I can't remember what it was like without them.... :D
