Biggest Colocasia Leaf Competition (non Wilko's 2008)
Show us your contenders
This is my Colocasia Burgundy Stem which I will be entering. The top bud rotted off over winter and I finally got some yellow sulpher which stopped the rot. It now has multilpe shoots so will be more of a clump than a single stem. We'll see how it goes.

Re: Biggest Colocasia Leaf Competition (non Wilko's)
Let me get this straight, Dave. The other competition is open strictly to Wilkinson (Alocasia) colocasias only. Is this competition open to any colocasia except Wilkos?
Do we have to declare in advance what we are entering or can we wait until the end of the summer and enter our largest leaf?

Re: Biggest Colocasia Leaf Competition (non Wilko's)
I shouldn't give you any help, Dave but you may find that removing all the buds except one and concentrating on a single stem rather than a clump will give you bigger leaves.
Re: Biggest Colocasia Leaf Competition (non Wilko's)
Stand aside Dave, here's mine.
It (ahem) used to be a very nice Xanthosoma violacae, but it didn't like winter much.
I have every confidence it will be a whopper by July..

Heres my baby, the first pic was back in 2006. Last year it had 5 flowers which knocked it back, so it didn't get very big.
The second pic is it, as of today, hopefully it won't flower this year.

Ok people I think we have something to aim for! Mel that is some plant, I bet a lot of people right now are hoping it flowers again this year!
Re: Biggest Colocasia Leaf Competition (non Wilko's)
I shall cut them off this time, if it does. I left them on to get some seed but the birds beat me to it.

I am entering Sarian. The living rainforest are growing it for me
Looks like melissa is way out in front already and will be hard to beat...... unless some one can come up with a Robusta
Not sure what I will put in yet......probably a Xanthosoma and a Mac.

I've got a Robusta to, Mark but it's not very big. Yet. I like your Rainforest entry.

Re: Biggest Colocasia Leaf Competition (non Wilko's)
Hi, and thanks for the responses. I was going to suggest an Alocasia one seperately. As they are a whole different league, as you can see from Melissa's. A well grown A. macrorhiza will knock spots off the hugest Colocasia.
My Burgundy Stem has outgrown the Prop today. I'll have to bring it indoors... that will please her

Gosh, that will make three competitions I've got to enter now.
Will the same rules apply?

I don't recall seeing a big Sarian leaf when we went to LRF late last year, has it just grown big recently?
We may possibly enter a Xanthosoma, or a market bought collie tuber. A separate competition for Alocasia is better as I agree that Alocasia is a different league altogether
