Plants\tress that like 50% shade

I am after some ideas for planting down the boarder where my 6ft fence block the direct sunlight till late afternoon.

I thoght my fatsia would be ideal bit unsure what else would be OK, palms, cannas etc....normaly prefer full sun I belive.

My suggestions is ignore the "problem". Most plants will be quite happy in that situation (unless they are out and out sun lovers such as Cistus). A six foot fence might cast quite a shadow on the ground, but as soon as a plant has grown two or three feet it will be up in the sun anyway.
