Identify my cactus!

Post by Essex Ross »

Hi, I was hoping someone could identify my cactus, I have taken a couple of photos of the flower but they slightly wilted before I got a chance to take a photo.

Probably either Trichocereus spachianus or schickendantii. They are almost impossible to distinguish except the latter flowers from a smaller size. Here's one which belongs to a friend who wanted an I.D. I posted a pic on the BCSS forum and was given that info. IMO the two plants are probably the same. Most of the other Trichocereus are much taller before they flower, usually 15-20 years from seed.

Bang on there Joel, just had another person identify it from the British Cactus and Succulent Society, and its a Echinopsis schickendantzii and as you probably already know Trichocereus is now part of the Echinopsis genus. So as I understand it all plants previously know as Trichocereus are now known as Echinopsis.
