Spineless Opuntia

Post by ourarka »

Does anyone know whether there are any spineless/glochidless Opuntias available in the Uk that have a chance of surviving?

I am particularly interested in Opuntia cacanapa or Opuntia ellisiana but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone own one or know of a source?

All information gladly received.

Apparently O. Cacanapa var. ellisiana is actually Opuntia engelmannii var. cacanapa. I haven't heard of it. Spineless forms may still have glochids...which are worse than spines.

Searching around it appears that glochid-less varities are available, but seem very hard to find in the UK.
