Yucca rostrata damage
Yucca rostrata damage
My rostrata went through dec 2010 in the unheated greenhouse totally unscathed yet this winter, despite it being 7c warmer and in the same greenhouse it has suffered rot damage and last years growth has come out of the growing point. I opened the door when it was mild as i did last winter. Any idea what could have caused this?

I don't have a moisture meter.
Why would watering it cause rot at the top?

I think its just like alot of plants and a mixture of a few things........They love to be bone dry, warm, baking in the sun, good air flow, drinage.....etc.
I would not have give it a drop of water......also, what was the humidity like in the greenhouse this year ?????? was there lots or airflow ?

Re: Yucca rotrata damage
Same as last year, i left one zip undone to help air get in although it was a bit humid during the mild spell in dec/jan.
It's outside now so i shall see what happens with it.

Re: Yucca rotrata damage
My guess is that the damage was caused last year.
Re: Yucca rostrata damage
That's a bit sad looking
I have given up on Yuccas after my linearifolia keeled over on Sunday.

Thanks mate.Simba wrote:Aww so sorry to hear that Adam.....
Two horrible winters in a row were just too much for it.
I have some other plans for the space now, which in all honesty will probably blend in more with the way the back garden looks now.
Still a bummer to lose what was once a really good looking plant.
Oh well.
Re: Yucca rostrata damage
I'll leave it out and see if it comes back. If not i'll replace it with a gloriosa, they are bulletproof here.

It was a real beauty, and seeing yours, catapaulted Linearifolia straight to the top of my 'must have' list...Adam D wrote:Still a bummer to lose what was once a really good looking plant..
What if you kept one in a buried pot so that you could lift if during the worst winters..??
