I've got a very old plant which has been out since May and is about to flower. I wouldn't risk it out for the winter without some sort of frame around it. The south east gets half the rain I get in West Yorks but there are micro climates even in West Yorks with similar rainfall levels to Essex. In a sunny spot with less than 700mm of rain p/a I think this plant might survive.

Got my boss a t candicans last year. According to her it was under a veranda for the winter often damp and covered in snow-it thrived there until some one stole it a couple of weeks ago. Trying to get her a replacement a beautiful but totally vicious cactus!
