Yucca Rostrata and Filifera

Post by benbaron »

Hi all,

So Ive got a couple of these blighters and need to know how to look after them.

At the moment they are in my conservatory and will remain so until it warms up. Im thinking of keeping them potted up for a good year atleast for now.
So....watering how often? At present the soil/grit is dry as a bone. Should I leave like that or give them a bit of water? and if so how much?

Thanks in advance.

You may well give them a drink if you're not going to plant them out for a while. You will find that the compost is very free draining so the water will appear to run straight through, but don't be tempted to leave them in a saucer of water!
I bought a Yucca Linearis and a Yucca Thompsoniana from Nigel 2 years ago and they are fine plants and growing well.
The compost in mine was bone dry too but as it was April, I planted them straight away and didn't water them in as the surrounding soil was moist enough for the roots to grow and seek the moisture.
