Two, of my 5, bigger Mayan Masks are flowering This one has not started yet so it still leafing well. The pic is actually of the Colocasia Diamond Head, but Mayan Mask is just behind it. Here is one of the flowers

After losing roots earlier in the year mine has been rather slow to recover. Having separated the two plants, the larger looks healthy if a little slow. The small piece of tuber on its own,while still looking completely firm has never grown at all.

Dave are you going to have a crack at hand pollination? You could get some very interesting characteristics come out in the seedlings.

I mentioned that on facebook and Brian Williams came back saying he'd never managed to prop from Mayan Mask, although he had tried numerous times, so wished me luck. Ok a challenge.... but if Brian can't do it.....

what ever happened to those inbred seedling alocasia you had dave?

I have 3 trays, this is one

I will have to say that one is impressive mine are no where near that big and have had them out all summer in a pot.. think mine have a nutrient problem so maybe next year I can get some leaves your size

Everything Dave does is quality

My mayan mask has speeded up the last few days and sent out a near open roller. Hopefully this is becoming quality.

Back to Mayan Mask. Here is a pic of the 2 flowering plants side by side. Both flowers were finally open at the same time, but whether receptive to pollen I don't know. Time will tell

How are the members mayan masks doing now? What has growth been like over the wet summer? They must of been in there element warm and high humidity in the mornings?

Mine really suffered this year.

First they were scorched badly by the crazy early spring heat and the concrete surroundings then they were planted and overshadowed by Basjoos that did much better than I ever expected.

They are currently potted up and on my living room windowsill.where I'm hoping they will recover from the 2/3 leaved taty things they are currently to what they were before I put them outside.

Mines looking ok, got a bit wobbly so went on to a heat mat a month ago.

4 or the big 5 are are in flowering mode, but unlike x calidora they seem to produce leaves while flowering. Three were severely battered by the wind, but all continued to grow slowly until brought under cover last week, now in the Lunar module, growth has speeded up a bit.

Two have 2 x fruit heads each, although Brian Williams, who developed Mayan Mask, says he has never got them to produce seed.

what is that in the top right hand of the pic Dave? looks like that bog plant..the name escapes me at the moment..nice foliage on it. Everyones MM in the UK did better than mine I had some soil problems in that spot of the garden. instead of putting effort into a nice big plant it put it all into an off shoot that I ended up splitting and giving to my mother. its still a very small plant for me but maybe next year I can get it to a good size.
