Thai giant flowering and dividing

Post by nicebutdim »

My colocasia thai giant is dividing up and producing a flower spike, is this flower anything worth saving and seeing, as my instinct is to cut it off.
Does anyone have any ideas on this

Missed this post, but better late than never.

Colocasia tend not to be as affected by flowering as Alocasia, as they flower at the same time as producing leaves, where as Alocasia stop producing leaves while in flower. The leaves tend to get slightly smaller as flowering approaches. I've not seen a Thai Giant flower so I can't tell you what to expect. Some Colocasia have very sweetly scented flowers. Undoubtedly it will be a spathe and a spadix.

Choice is yours but either way it won't make much difference to the plant IMO
Best regards
Dave
