Alocasia 'Indian odora'

Post by Dave Brown »

This was sold to me as an Alocasia macrorrhiza rhizome back in 2007. It has grown well but never reached the size I was expecting from Alo mac. I posted a pic over on the Alocasia group on Facebook, and has been identified by LariAnn Garner as Alocasia 'Indian odora' This is LariAnn's name as it is very similar to odora but not quite the same, and and could be some form of hybrid, but originating from India.

It has almost round shield shaped leaves, and is quite cool tolerant Pic taken last night as it was moved to the conservatory for overwintering.

A year later and the plant has slightly smaller leaves after being defoliated in spring by an unexpected frost. However it is one of the better performers in a cool summer, IF you don't put it out in March in frosty weather

This one is about 6 years old now, and I've never divided it. Makes for a more interesting plant, although a much bigger footprint to overwinter

Looking good Dave icon_thumright

Have you ever had it flower, and if so are the flowers fragrant as the name suggests?

Looks to be in top notch condition, very green. Seems to be the easiest alocasia/colocasia to keep looking good over winter. Mines looks pretty similar too whereas the portora is down to just a stem.
