I popped into Akamba today as I was in the area, on the off chance that they might have got some more in, and got lucky.

They have quite a few more if anyone is interested, and some smaller ones as well.

Ordinary people will not notice, but my special senses have detected that there may be two of them in the pot. I think I'll leave them together for now and split them at the end of the summer so that I can try different ways of overwintering them (ie killing them).

Nice find Mick. You may find that if they are planted in that coir mix the easiest way to seperate them will be with a hose pipe. You can blast the coir away and untangle the roots easier and you should find the little cormlets you can remove and pot up for more plants.

Will we be seeing you at Amulree?

Thanks for the info Mark, they do seem to be potted in some sort of coir. I would realy like to find some little cormlets as I'm sure I could keeep them alive over winter.

Amulree - you've put me on the spot there because I have been pondering this one - I'm really keen on the Hardypalms meet & visit to Will Giles' garden so may give this one a miss.

Nice one Mick,

mine has has grown much bigger leaves since at home with feed and has much more rounded shield shaped leaves. The latest leaf is the largest at 55cms from lobe to tip, much bigger than my Mac. I have heard it needs higher temps in winter, but it is doing much better than mac in medium warmth. 15 to 25C.
Best regards
Dave

That's reassuring Dave, I have a mac root, bit small, that I got from Exotic Matahari this year but which only grows in the airing cupboard. As soon as I take it out it stops again.

How often do you feed yours & what with?

I reckon you'll be OK Pete, they had quite a few in. Big ones like mine are £14.50, I think the smaller ones were under a tenner.

OK cheers Mick - can you remember where they were? I assume they'll be in the poly with the nana's and other alocasia's?

Thanks, take care

I have fed mine on half strength miracle-gro every few days and a shot of palmbooster every couple of weeks. You may be able to see that the newest leaf when I got it was only about 1 cm. Quite an improvement.
