Hello to all, unknown colocasia

Post by redflash »

Hello,
i am a new member here. My name is Andreas, 28 years old, living in southwest germany in the city karlsruhe.

My first post is a question:

I bought colocasia black magic from france, but a few of the plants are not black magic, i havn`t seen this before, ther are spots/blotchs in the leaves. Anybody knew this colocasia specie?? Here a pic.

Sorry my bad englisch.

Andreas

Wecome Andreas, not sure on the Collie but it could be a sport of Mojito:

Welcome Andreas, enjoy the forum. I'm sure someone will be able to ID your Colocasia.

Welcome to the madhouse Andreas, Black Magic is a tissue culture sport with 'Mojito' being another so it's probably just a reversion to Colocasia esculenta icon_thumright .

Hi Andeas icon_thumright and welcome to the forum icon_salut

You plant looks like some sort of sport or hybrid, with quite attractive marbleing on the leaves. Not sure of the exact parentage.

One good source of info on Colocasia is Denis Carey, and Tony Avent's article (Plant Delights) HERE
Best regards
Dave

Welcome Andreas icon_cheers

That really does look like some hybrid/sport/variation of a Black Magic and Mojito cross.

This is a good subject to start off your membership to the forum. Keep it growing and monitor any changes and keep us informed :D

Are the stems stripey?
If it is could be youve got a black marble. A sport of burgundy stem.
Much like mojito, but reversed. So mainly black with green variegation as opposed to mojitos green with black :D
Or it's just a black magic sport

Hi all

I need to ask you something. I got this colocasia from Andreas and keep trying to find out what variety it is. Mojito? - but Mojito do not send runners - I guess, maybe Black Marble? Can anyone tell me are these 2 runners or clumpers?

Mojito is definately a clumper, not sure about Black Marble. The pic seems to have deep purple/black stems, where as Mojito are variegated, so it is not Mojito, although the leaf colouring on some, is similar.
