Alocasia x calidora update

Post by Dave Brown »

Here is a shot of my Alocasia x calidora in the conservatory. I normally plant it out for summer, but we have had repeated high winds so far this year, which wrecked it last year. I'll stand it outside if, or when, summer arrives.

Yes, Irisene, although it is not in the same pot, just using it as support.

OI.... get your own

What you really want is a conservatory where your patio is. Having glass to over winter/shelter things in, is so important for getting plants to any size

Oh forgot to update.

Finally, bad weather forced my Alocasia x calidora outside ????? yes I did mean to say that.

A garden party in rain is not so great for people, but the conservatory plants can take a chilly, wet night, so out they went, and the disco was in the conservatory :) I must admit calidora looks so much better outside. icon_thumright

Just a shame about the garden being so windy :( Everything I grow has big leaves and the wind wrecks them

The small F2 McCalidora are ok although suffered some mealy bug, so had to halt selling them. They are quite difficult to eradicate, but getting there now. I'll post a pic.

San, planted his in the garden, and it is doing quite well, which surprised me.

It was time for big calidora to move back into the conservatory last weekend. Despite the lacklustre summer it grew well in the 3 months up the garden. The problem now is fitting it into the conservatory.

I had to remove most of the older leaves as it was almost as wide as the conservatory. Fortunately it does not get affected by defoliation. The main problem was the weight of it. :ahhh!:

It was planted out llast year, but this year it didn't go outside until mid July, so was not planted, as too late. To be honest, growth rate was better than last year planted out, it just needs watering more often :)

How old is it Dave ?

Mine's grown great guns since getting as a pup last year and is now 4ft high. The pup on it is developing well , so i'll have another to play around with next year. I like these tbh so looking forward to more. Easily my favourite of the aroids that i have at the mo
