I worked a load of horse muck into my bed prior to planting out. Feed wise, i use homemade chicken poo brew about once every two weeks and in between i put one scoop of phostrogen to 7.5 ltr of water.......thats about half strength of whats recommended on the box.

On the strength of Dave's last post, i remeasured mine earlier this morning............its expanded to 860mm x 590mm. Having been totally concentrating on this leaf, i forgot about the other mammoth which itself is now coming in at 840mm.

The challenge has to be 1m now methinks............

has anyone ever done it ?

Is it possible ?

Should I use warm water when watering them?

Its windy today icon_thumbdown
I use warm water daily, as the warmer the soil (compost) the faster the growth. I use 1/4 strength Miracle gro every 2 to 3 days, with dilute Maxicrop seaweed extract once a week, and a weak dose of Epsom Salts with it every month. This helps unleash the Mammoth in it

Even at 60 odd cm you can't beat Collies for dramatic effect.

Here is a tub planted Mammoth with leaves up to 70cm

Pic as promised taken yesterday using fern as a form of scale (fern is 1.66mtrs from base to bottom of fronds or 5.5ft) Fern is actually a 6 footer but planted half foot deep to help with stability and hopefully frond length as recommended by amulree.

The collie actually stands to highest tip of leave at 5 foot, and the base stem is 15cm wide with 4 pups each over a 1 foot tall already!
Aside from my bananas and seed raised ensete this plant is my pride and joy and in my view probably my biggest success in my first year. icon_thumleft

i only feed mine chicken pellets and i water them every evening or morning (depends on work), thats it! And mine only get about 2.5 or maybe 3 hrs late afternoon sun (plant is west facing). Ironically the ones that get full sun and the same feed water regime are absolutely rubbish!

I don't have any actual mammoths but my eddoes from Asda are up to 670mm :D

Mammoth is a type of Colocasia esculenta, same species as eddoes, but the shape of my Mammoth rhizomes are nothing like the Asda and Tesco eddoes I bought when they used to sell them here. The eddoes are not spherical like mammoth, instead more elongated.

A full size Mammoth rhizome is around 15cm (6in) diameter.
