These are 'Jewel' type Alocasia. The easiest plant in the world to kill with overwatering. They need to be treated like succulents. When completely dry and the petioles start to wilt, stand in a saucer of water for 5 minutes. Don't be tempted to water from the top, or rot will set in within 2 seconds

there are some beautiful "jewel" types but far to finicky for me to mess with.

Dried mine off completely in a gently heated prop in the greenhouse. The main corm still has a firm spike but just when I thought it was dormant it sent up a pup by the end of last year. Only watered it from the bottom twice this year and still looks OK. Second winter. (Think I'm an expert, now )
