Propagation of running Colocasia in Pots?

Post by pdid » Sun Sep 01, 2013 11:00 am

Up till this year all of my collies have been clump forming, this year I was kindly given a colocasia dark stem hybrid and a gaoligonensis (sp), both of which are runners.

Both plants are now producing runners but they are in pots so there is no where for the runners to run to. How do you go about propping from these? Is it as simple as putting a pot of compost at the end of the runner?

Any hints and tips greatly appreciated.

I think you can cut the runners in to inch pieces and lay them on top of compost and they produce a new plant. Don't quote me on this though.

You can also treat them like strawberries, pinning down a runner in a separate pot then cut the runner when new roots had formed.

Some can be turned around the rim of the pot and new plants will develop on the edge.

I usually let them set some small roots before I cut them off. I have at least 50 plants all from runners this year. If your into propagation there much better than clumpers
