What's the similarity between a Daffodil and a Thai Giant ?

Post by Dave Brown »

What's the similarity between a Daffodil and Colocasia gigantea 'Thai Giant' ?

Not the leaves
Not the flowers

It is that they can both be started off in a cup of water on the kitchen windowsill-

The Rhizome went dormant out in the conservatory causing all the roots to rot off, so cleaned it up and soaked the rhizome with sprout in warm water for 10 minutes, then just plonked in a half full plastic cup of water with the base of the rhizome just touching the water surface. Left on the windowsill in temps between 15 and 22C and 1 week later roots appeared

Update
Thai Giant now has a full root system with no additional heat. Basically it is sat on a kitchen unit at night and on the windowsill by day. I don't think it is doing badly really as temps are around 16C to 23C

It will stay in the same position over the next 2 to 3 weeks, then I'll set up one of the Reptile mats in the conservatory to 'bring it on'.

The other, larger CgTG stump is sat dry in a 12" tub, out in the conservatory at the moment. It didn't lose it's roots so will be watered as conditions warm up
