Colocasia Buying Advice.

Post by KevJ »

Hi, a Colocasia virgin here after buying my first plant :) !
Please could someone advise me what might be the best one to start with? I quite fancy the variegated type but appreciate some are probably more easy to care for than others. At this time of year should I be looking at buying a rhizome or a plant icon_scratch ? I do have a propagator so warmth wouldn’t be an issue.

Any advice appreciated!

I'd start with rhizomes of the plain one you can buy in supermarkets, really cheap to experiment with, and if you fail then buy some plants later when there's no risk of frost etc

No problem, first time I've grown them this year, got 5 for £2.80 I think, they all sprouted and developed roots, 3 made it and are now getting quite big, the other 2 rotted, don't think I let them develop enough root before planting

My advice on buying them is, don't. If your any thing like me you will kill them!  Remember what Andy Cap used to say, "If at first you don't succeed pack it in and don't be a Charlie". icon_thumright .
