That's odd Kris, mine seems shy to pup icon_scratch

The leaf is now fully grown and topped out at 74cm, but we have a least another 2 months of growth yet, so we'll see how it goes.

It might be an idea to separate the pups to increase the leaf size.
Best regards

I think i'll do just that. :)

Hopefully should leave one big plant and several more smaller plants that'll have their turn at growing very big next year (I'll keep them growing through the winter)

If they are spherical ones, and have a slight pinkiness at the base of the stems and pinky roots, they are the Mammoth. Jack's Giant has white roots.

Its not a mammoth as far as I can tell.It doesn't have the pinkness that the wilkinsons ones had anyway, and the roots are white

colocasia 2.jpg
Its a nice plant that doesn't produce that many pups as you can see in the second pic,the big one it sent up not long after starting into growth the others have only really appeared in the last few weeks. That all helps in getting a big leaf I've found.I've got loads of giganteas planted out and in pots, and they all pup like crazy except one, thats getting to be a decent size, obviously its no thai giant yet

Oops  missed this Coddy

The Jack's Giant planted out is doing reasonably well, with a largest leaf of around 75cm. I can't measure it easily as it is out over the pond. They are slow to get going but has done better than I expected in this cool summer year. Not the best pic as was getting dark.

Jack has finally become Giant icon_thumright Now standing at what must be 7 feet tall. The leaves are not huge, huge but the stems are very long. I think it must be the length of the growing season that has brought this on

I stored dry last winter as I didn't have enough space.

Here was the rhizome in Feb 2011. I started it off just in a plastic bag to raise humidity in around 20 to 24C and it has grown from that in 8 months. I shall be storing more dry if I can guarantee large plants from them.

Hi Dave, after you had dried the corm off was it then kept at room temperature in storage or colder!

It didn't get cold, any lower than +6C but was on the table in the conservatory until early Feb, so min 6C, max up to about 20-ishC. From then is was on top of the kitchen wall cupboards around 20C min.

20C may seem difficult to maintain, but if the room is at 18C, near the ceiling will be nearer 20C. Also the kitchen gets warm when cooking/ironing etc.

I think I'm am going to store as many of my Colocasia rhizomes up there in future as they seem quicker to respond to starting off, as I said on another topic. I read this on a webpage, that someone pointed me to.
Best regards

Thanks Dave I’m going to try this method!
Does it work with small rhizomes too?
I’m just worried small rhizomes would become dehydrated.
