Lee, Sean, yes they grow better in shade. I have a smaller one that has been in partial sun, and it is much more yellow. Alocasia in general can cope with shade in UK, and probably deep, deep shade for you Sean in the tropics.

The ones I am trying are the cooler types as we have only mediocre summers. Sean you may struggle with these, as although tropical, are probably from higher altitude.... or you could really hack us all off by growing a Borneo Giant, or Alocasia robusta and putting up a couple of pics of how they perform in ideal conditions. icon_thumright They are just not do-able in the UK climate.

What a fabulous plant. I couldn't really gauge how big it was until I seen the photo of you standing next to it. It will be exciting to see what the size will be this time next year. A lovely plant and in pristine condition. icon_thumleft

We get one overhere in our tropical butterflygarden. It like the heat very well and its about 2 meters high. So why its not doing well in Darwin is very strange. Nice that they grow well in Kent by the way! But the summer was warm so that might explaine it.

As promised this is the one grown in the sun, and has been much slower and smaller than ones in the shade. In my experience they are far better in the shade
