It's that wonderful Welsh soil of yours again Jacko!

Nothing happening up here when I checked last weekend, but I will check again this weekend. However, whilst it has not been very cold up here recently I would not say it has exactly been that mild either.

could be several factors, theres a lot more mulch and leaf litter than last year,a more mature plant, good soil (as you say) plus relatively mild weather recently.just hope it doesnt get whacked by some horrible cold event over the next month.

I am going to have a look at my Fargesia tomorrow Jacko as you have whetted my appetite.

The one that normally comes up first is my rufa, but I will look at my scabrida and robusta as well :)

Same here on Isle of Man. I had a scrape away round the fallen leaves. Loads of fat culms ready to go!

I had a look last weekend and nothing was happening :(

All looking good jacko .... :)

The only Fargesia's that aren't shooting yet are the nitida variants.

Here's one of the many, many new scabrida culms ...

mr list,no they dont grow any higher once the new culms have reached theyre full height in any one season.the new culms appear in spring from the ground usually bigger and taller than last years.your fargesia will probably be the first to shoot followed by the others later in spring.
