vivax awakening

heres some pics of phyllostachys vivax huanvenzhu awakening with some pretty impressive culms emerging.i've been away for 5 days and these were not there 5 days ago.

That 1st one is looking very impressive!

yes that is impressive.

thick enough to be a trunk on other plants.

theres also this one which looks slightly bigger,hard to tell at the moment until theyve fully emerged.

what size are they supposed to be able to reach at max?
they cant be far off that now.

i'll know in about a week or so how wide these culms are.

I think they can reach 5 inches across!

sorry mr list i misunderstood.yes kris is right 5 inch diameter culms and 70ft height in its natural habitat in china.in mid wales i could get 3 inch culms and 40ft ive seen a 30ft one in a place further south from here about 50 miles away a bit older than mine.mine is 20ft and 1.75 inch diameter culms from last year.hoping for 2 inch ones this year. i got it in 2008.

i imagined it would need its own corner or something but if fits right in the middle of everything.

those pics last year, it was starting to look more like a tree than a bamboo, which i always think looks a bit bush like.

at the moment it still fits into everything but that could change as it gets bigger.it also gets tree like in its proportions.
