Bamboo Problem

Post by greenlad09 »

Hi all,

This new shoot on my Bamboo has died off, its the only one as all the others are coming up fine or at least they were. Earlier this year it shot up a dozen 8ft canes but has now slowed as this dud one has come up. Is it from overhead watering by any chance?

Cheers,
S

Bamboos sometimes abort canes, so I would not worry, particularly as the other ones are okay.

I would not worry about the other ones having stopped their vertical growth either as this is just part of their growth pattern.

Thanks for the quick response. Overall its very healthy looking so I won't worry then. Cheers again. S

Bamboos grow their rhizome in the Autumn so throwing a load of manure or compost from your compost heap on top of it at that time will help the rhizome to grow and then it will produce even bigger culms next year.

yeah i concur with adam on this.its quite usual for this to happen.for example my spectabilis produced around 50 culms in spring but only 28 survived the others aborted.
