Re: B&Q small bamboo info
for fargesia scabrida (asian wonder) go here - http://www.bamboogarden.com/Fargesia%20 ... Dicksonia antarctica%27.html and fargesia rufa go here - http://www.bamboogarden.com/Fargesia%20 ... ufa%27.htm hope this helps
Re: B&Q small bamboo info
those links are helpful
i fished out the B&Q labels and they are marketed as dwarf bamboos
both say they reach 1.5 metres tall not the 2+ like on those links.
just to be sure, are both of these (rufa, scabrida) taller growing than fargasia bimbo?
i am thinking of swapping them around.

Re: B&Q small bamboo info
both rufa and scabrida will be over 1.5m. with scabrida being the taller.Mr List wrote:those links are helpful

Not got bimbo - but its a form of murieliae which would probably make it at least as tall as the rufa.
dwarf bamboo!! ..... that would be funny if it didn't serve to contribute to the bad reputation of bamboo amongst most gardeners

Re: B&Q small bamboo info
Bimbo (lol) is definitely supposed to be short at 1m, 1.5m, or 2m depending on who you believe.
Joy is another short one, mine's currently very short in a 5" pot.

Re: B&Q small bamboo info
of course all this is assuming B&Q have the correct IDs for all three
Re: B&Q small bamboo info
My rufa seems to have maxed out around about 6 foot tall. However, even though the bottom of the clump is well-behaved it takes a lot of room up at the top as it puts on a lot of top growth. I would say that the diameter is about 8 foot.
The scabrida is different and more like a well-behaved Phyllostachys. Mine has been in the ground for 5 years and is now 9 foot tall and has a spread of about 5 foot or so.

asian wonder should have red colouration on the leaf joints
Re: B&Q small bamboo info
all the fargesia look so similar especially when smaller, i havent a clue.
Re: B&Q small bamboo info
my small asian wonder from b+q had very distinct redness and darker culms. I think if yours are all the same green b+q might have mixed the labels up.
Re: B&Q small bamboo info
i mean rufu and asian wonder are both kind of reddy/coppery so i can't tell which is which.
plus i got some the other day that had a nitinida label.
so that is three types of fargasia which all look pretty much the same to me.
