Bamboo for waterlogged site?
Bamboo for waterlogged site?
I've been asked by a friend to recommend a bamboo that will cope with soil that gets waterlogged in winter and remains moist all summer. The garden area is also in a bit of a frost pocket. I don't have a clue to be honest so can someone recommend any bamboos for these conditions please.

Hi Andy, go here :http://www.scottishbamboo.com/Tall___Sp ... Bamboo.htm
I have one of these, it has air pockets within it's root system which makes it survive being in boggy ground, or waterlogged ground, I hope this helps you Andy.
Phyllostachys Heteroclada (Water Bamboo)
Water Bamboo - This Bamboo has an amazing tolerance for waterlogged soils!
Origin: China
Height: 6 metres
Hardiness: - 21 degrees celcius; Zone 6a
Exposure: Sun or Part Shade
Use: This plant is very tolerant of waterlogged soils
This plant is known as the Water Bamboo due to its ability to grow in waterlogged soils owing to the air channels present in its roots.
Water Bamboo is fairly open but it has an overall clumping habit. The canes are a silvery grey when young and can be planted in a shady area to 'light it up'. When planted against the Black Bamboo a fantastic contrast can be achieved.

Price: £26.67 Not available in 2011.
