My phyllostachys nigra has not "shot" for 2 years. I've fertilized it, fed it, muched it and watered it but still no new shoots - just straggly old ones from when it was first planted in 2010............what is the matter with it????paulrm71 wrote:Phylostachys nigra 16 March 2012, however, I broke the culm off when clumsily mulching with manure!!! Re: Bamboo shooting dates 2012
I've been away and some of my boos have been late this year.
I couldn't see any shoots on my chusquea gigantea or my chusquea culeou when I left on May 25th but by June 4th both had moved - pushing up culms of 7" and 5" respectively while I was away.
My Phyllostachys Aureosulcata 'Spectabilis' started to push up one new culm in April but it hasn't grown at all in the last 6 weeks.
Indocalamus Tessellatus - still awaiting movement here...........
Sasa Kurilensis 'Shimofuri' almost non-existent after getting too much leaf scorch last winter - just has tiny signs of new life.
Phyllostachys Heterocladas X 3 grown from seed 10 years ago - still clinging to life and started to moved mid-May. Will probably reach the grand height of 3ft again this year.
Phyllostachys Vivax not moving yet
Pseudosasa Japonica - ditto - not moving yet
Fargesia Murielae - so thick now that I can't see what is new and what isn't!
Phyllostachys Aurea not moving yet
Fargesia Robusta showing new culms shooting up - about 3 inches today.

Same here, it's looking very tatty, fresh leaves just emerging, but no sign of any new culms.

Re: Bamboo shooting dates 2012
I'm well chuffed with my Nigra this year. Got about 6 clumps split from one bigger one about 2 yrs ago. All are sending up nice culms, the tallest about 8ft (ish). Number of culms varies between about 5 min and 10 max per clump.huporhaha wrote:My phyllostachys nigra has not "shot" for 2 years.
