Help for this black bamboo

Post by ourarka »

Hi guys,

This black bamboo froze in its pot last winter, at least for a week or two. As you can see a lot of the leaves turned brown, and it has yet to send up any new growth this year (whilst other bamboos in the garden have done).

Is it dead or beyond help? If not, is there anything I need to do to give it some convalescence?

You might have lost it but keep the soil moist and if its still alive it will push up growth in the next month or so.
Most wanted list - Any Young Trachycarpus and/or fern.

Oops ... good point about the photo!

(Now you say that other Nigras haven't pushed out I am beginning to think it will be fine. It doesn't look as bad in the photo as in real life!!!)

Looks okay to me.

Be patient and I am sure that new culms will grow soon.

It looks just like all of my potted bamboos.

All of my Phyllostachys are way behind all of my Fargesias, which are looking a lot better now with new leaves and culms growing.

It seems like Phyllostachys just needs a bit more heat because mine started growing new shoots in April but have pretty much completely stalled since (until yesterday!).
