Is there a particular time of year that is best for moving bamboo from one part of the garden to another?. karl.

generally autumn..... but anytime but mid winter is usually ok.

Shooting season is best avoided... however on big plants a little damage to new culms shouldn't be a problem.

late feb up to mid march is a good time too when they are dormant just before shooting times.as long as the weather isnt severely cold during this time.

Many thanks, i have a few large bamboos that need relocating now that my conifer hedges are slowly slowly being cut down. I may even buy some big buckets of well rooted spectabilis, as i know they can go into the ground more or less anytime if planted out straight from pots. I initially did'nt want to go down this route as i may end up with to much bamboo once it all takes hold!!. karl.
