Dividing bamboo.

Post by karl66 »

I have a couple of spare days off & want to continue creating a bamboo border along my fences, rather than buy anymore i was going to pinch a few canes off various existing planted ones. Whats the least amount to take out to get the new ones establishing?, i was thinking 2/3 canes? is this enough. karl.

I've always dug up around 1 foot square of rootball regardless of whether there's 2 or 10 canes.

2 to 3 canes is ok.more important is the amount of rootmass you dig out, basically the more the better.also strike a balance with the height of your canes/culms with the size of the rootball.if they are tall canes then cut about a third off its height.its because the severed rootmass cannot support large, tall canes.
