I have a Borinda macclureana.

It was bought in April 2010 and planted out in May 2010 and it is still alive today even after the horrible temperatures of December 2010. It did completely defoliate during that winter and I thought that it had died, but it leafed back up again and its doing well this year :)

Dec 10 was the second coldest ever recorded month up in Scotland after Jan or Feb 1947, I can't remember which month.

I think my lowest that month was -18C, maybe slightly lower, we had some days when the maximum was -10C. There was snow on the ground all month, in fact we had snow on the ground continuously for 6 weeks. That winter killed a lot of plants.

Last winter was quite benign up here and it hardly lost any leaves at all :)

That's good to hear, luckily for me I think the lowest I got in 2010 was -8*c.

How well does the Mac hold it's blue colouring?

It seems like Borinda papyrifera has the nicest blue colour but is less hardy..

my papyrifera got killed outright in december 2010.had a poor recovery after the winter of 2009.so its too tender for here in mid wales.it says it can handle -10C but im doubtful more like -7C IMO.temps in dec.2010 were sustained -10C's day and night and plenty of -14C.

Hmm I guess I may have to go for the Borinda Mac, shame that the best looking variety is the least hardy.
