Bamboo ID for this beauty
Bamboo ID for this beauty
Can anyone Id this bamboo please.
As you can see from the picture it's an enormous clump.
I cleverly waited until some unwilling volunteers passed by so you could get an idea of size.
It's probably the healthiest looking bamboo I have ever seen and it was taken mid december 2012

Difficult to say for sure from that picture Allan but I'll go with Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Aureocaulis'.
Re: Bamboo ID for this beauty
That was my first thought but I bow to Grub's greater experience. It does look a bit like my best P Aurea but all mine are too small to compare as yet.call wrote:it looks like a fargesia to me

Too upright... I only went with the Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Aureocaulis' as it's a readily available 'cheapy', yellow canes,I'm sticking with it for now, got any close ups of the culms Allan?call wrote:it looks like a fargesia to me

the way the leaves are clumped and dangling looks like a young vivax aureocaulis to me.
Re: Bamboo ID for this beauty
Unfortunately they are the only pictures I have of it, I was getting enough strange looks as it was from people wondering why I wasn't buying poinsettia's or smelly candles and showing more interest in the plants.
I have not seen a clump this large and healthy and as it was only 30 miles down the road from me thought it could be a good boo choice for my garden.
Was rather hoping it was one of the hardy clumping fargesia's but I think grub is right having looked at some Phyllostachys pics on the net.

With no other piccies we're playing the waiting game , I am sure it's a yellow caned Phyllostachys thoughjacko wrote:the way the leaves are clumped and dangling looks like a young vivax aureocaulis to me.

Agree with either Jacko or Grub.

Looks to me like aureo-sulcata also. I have a fair amount of biggish specimens & it looks familiar. karl.
