My Phyllostachys Aurea are also slow this year and are only just starting to produce.

Fargesia Simba, Fagesia Vampire and Shiroshima have all produced well though.

My Phyllostachys Aurea seem to have really sped up since I started putting the grass clippings on them like it said to do on gardeners world.

Nice to see you back Jacko. Been a slow year for bamboos. No sign of new growth on my shanghai 3 yet. Others are starting to shoot.

Fresh grass will warm up the soil as it decomposes.

Wow, nice jacko!

I'm kind of glad to hear that everyone else's bamboos are behind. I forgot to water some large, potted Phyllostachys over winter and I'm starting to worry that they may be dead.

All my boo's are going mental at present with the exeption of pyllostachy nigra which looks healthy but has done little in over 2 years!!, i'm now convinced this is one boo that does not like semi-shade. karl.

I'm still waiting for the shanghai to move.

Anyone got culms bigger than any they've had before?

That's a pretty impressive culm!
I always thought bamboos were expensive because of the time it takes to produce a saleable plant....I now see it's because they produce £2 coins! How long before that nest egg matures? :D
