Bamboo chop back
Bamboo chop back
Hi All,
I have a large bamboo plant in the garden that was planted in the wrong place, it is now blocking the view in to one of the main planting beds.
A few Question.
If I was to chop it to the floor would it re generate?
Are they easy to transplant as I have seen people do this before but Bamboos don't seem to like it?
Thanks

Re: Bamboo chop back
Yes if cut back to ground it will re shoot.
It will survive a move, I've moved plenty over the years.

Re: Bamboo chop back
Bamboo transplants easily. I've known it to come back from a culm that only had two small roots coming off it whereas any other plant would die from lack of root
Re: Bamboo chop back
Rob, as other's have said just move to where you have to!, it will establish quicker again, the more root you take with it though . karl.
Re: Bamboo chop back
I think I will move it soon there is much more planting space, I could gain a 5ft piece of garden and move the bamboo to a area that is hard to plant tropicals because it is in deep shade. How much root must be taken?
Re: Bamboo chop back
Rob, that's only a tiddler , no problem to divide. karl.fern Rob wrote:Just thinking its a large plant.
Re: Bamboo chop back
I just don't want to kill it, to be honest I don't want to divide it but move the whole clump.
