Need some ID's

Post by miketropic » Tue Aug 27, 2013 11:44 pm

I went to the zoo and botanical garden last weekend and was overwhelmed this year with all the new plants. This zoo is famous for its plants and bamboos and I wanted to take just about everything home. With that said they had a few bamboo that had no tags on them and I was wondering if anyone could ID them so I could get to looking for them..

small shrub type about 4 ft tall growing in shade. leaes were 12 inchs or better

This variegated one was a bit bigger at 5 ft in semi shade near a pond

I agree with Kreos on the first one. The second one looks just like my Sasa kurilensis 'Shimofuri'. They both need to have their rhizomes restricted unless you've got a lot of space to fill.
