Fargesias are wonderful bamboos.

Well behaved, bone hardy and very pretty.

Which variety is it? I have a Campbell on order, should hopefully arrive tomorrow :D

It was suppoosed to be a 'pingwu',but I ended up with an ordinary robusta coz scottish bamboo ran out of pingwu's and offered me a plain robusta instead which is ok.I love it coz it's always the first to shoot here.Mind you lots of shoots appearing on my nigra,I think their last years, whether their still viable I will have to wait and see.they feel solid. They were under about 6 inches of hay and straw mulch which I removed yesterday before putting fresh composty mulch down.Couple on the vivax's definately last years late culms appart from one.If it is a new one then thats early too.

I planted my new Campbell up on Saturday.

When I pulled it out of the pot I could see lots and lots of new culms starting to grow. Still some time before they reach the surface though.

Great stuff Jacko!

Hopefully if we have some warmish weather soon mine will also start breaking the surface. There are plenty underground waiting :)

I love the hairs on Fargesia culms. My rufa and scabrida are the same.

Cheers,I use very dark mulch,'Vital earth soil improver'.Infact It's nearly black when wet,so it attracts more heat from the sun, maybe this has spurred them on.
