Fargesia scabrida ... on the move!

Post by Lazlo Woodbine »

This is a plant cut in half last October ... funnily enough the other half, which is in a much shadier location, has sent up only a couple of new shoots.. :(

Great stuff Laz!

Fargesia scabrida is an excellent bamboo.

Mine sent up 15 culms last year, I wonder how many it will send up this year?

Great stuff.

I like Fargesias, I really do.

My rufa and scabrida are miles behind yours though.

I was looking at my rufa last night actually and it has been in the ground now for almost 7 years and it is getting really quite wide across the bottom now.

As for the scabrida, it has been in the ground fr 4 years and the new culms that are starting to come up look BIG.

I had noticed that Jungle Giants had scabrida for sale again.

Looks like a healthy specimen Jacko.

Mine is pushing up about 40 new culms this year. Still no laptop so I can not post photos though :(

Here's my largest ... the original plant was divided last year - this is the better half! In an open position lightwise - but reasonably sheltered from the prevailing winds ... :D
