When is the best time to buy one of these, and where from?
The best time to buy one is when you see one for sale, where that would be from I don't know.
Best regards

Hiniba is most likely a distinctive cultivar of Ensete ventricosum, as are Maurelii, Montbeliardii etc.

The pic does look the same, but doesn't help find a source though. You still need to lop it down to pup it

So would buying 100 ventricosum seed be a good nana. Shred proof, with the pale green leaves and red rib?

I think ventricosum has slightly thicker leaves than Maurelii so shred less. You could try it, but specific cultivars have been bred over many generations by Ethiopian farmers, and are propped by cutting down and pupping, or recently in the west by TC, like Maurelii. The chances of getting something very unusual from 100 seed are very very remote.

These hiniba truly are awe inspiring,I would dearly love to get my hands,or should that be green fingers,on one! Having grown standard ventricosum and maurelii's for a few years now together with a few types of musa, these certainly do make me drool lol. I'm such a pleek these days and its definitely getting worse by the year! I do hope these prove as reliable as the others ive previously mentioned and therefore become a little more available to the likes of us plant geeks who really want them. How are they doing through the winter, all good I trust?

I look forward to seeing the summer size CW, give it plenty food and water.

What do you feed them anyway?
