I am very shocked that your coleus have stood up to all that watering from when you water your ensete. Mine last year in the summer when we had all that rain absolutely hated it and started dropping there leaves, this year mine look Fantastic. Your Hiniba is something to be proud of. I wish i live down south like you. icon_thumleft

As the saying goes now THE ONLY WAY IS ESSEX.

Is Hiniba more wind resistant than 'Montbeliardii', or are you more sheltered than others, Carl?

Much, MUch, MUCh, MUCH more wind resistant. The difference is staggering. My Hiniba now has a few splits, whereas my 'Montbeliardii' is sticks with ribbons dangling.

Carl, you've been watering and feeding it :ahhh!: Mine is small by comparison, but we went on a water meter this year, and Hini paid the price

Here's mine today

and here is 'Montbeliardii' on 2nd Oct before the high winds.

Dave, did you or did you not air-brush your Hiniba pic?

All the leaves of my five different types of Ensete are untouched.......in the greenhouse; except the Mont, which is too tall. I just managed to drag this ten foot monster in its tub into the garage where I have a few inches clearance before the ceiling.

Love to try a hiniba out in an autumn garden.

Looking at the pic the wind barely touched your Hiniba Dave all the leaves on mine have been shredded but still upright unlike my other Ensete's which are all at 45 degrees

Ooo-errr. I take it yours is fully exposed Carl ?

My Hiniba is where the 'Montbeliardii' was planted last year, and it became completely shredded, so Hiniba is still much more wind resistant.

I totally agree about wind resistance it's been barely touched all summer but yesterday morning was horrendous between 7am and 9am the wind was a nightmare according to our local news last night Walton-on-The-Naze which is only a 20min drive around the coast had a gust of 68mph.Just had a look at my local weather station and it's saying Harwich had a 70mph gust at 07:28am yesterday morning
