musa kluai namwah is a edible nana, which cant be grown from seed.
Mush, Not completely correct. We had this discussion on bananas.org. They do produce seed which is usually infertile but not always. The seed came from Thailand so at this point i am considering myself lucky and waiting to see how it develops.
Thanks Alan

interesting to know that it doesn't always produce infertile seed, keep us updated.

If so, how true to type from seed?

No its a Thai desert banana in fact Kluai means banana in Thai
According to Encanto Farms its also known as Pisang Awak, Kluai Nam Wa , Klue Namwa, Klue Maliong, and Klue Ong
they all sound the same to me obviously I haven't a klue :D

Well whatever this thing is it grows faster than any other banana plant i have ever seen. It pupped today and the pup is already 1 1/2" tall

Whatever it is, it sounds interesting! Any nana that grows fast and puts two fingers up to the UK climate has to be a good un.
Keep us updated on its progress Alan. icon_thumright

The story continues.............here is a close of season picture.

So it grew from seed faster than anything i have ever seen, reached about the height seen here and started to pup. the first pup i took off after it grew independant roots, that one is now growing on and has also pupped

As you can see the original plant has now thrown up another two pups.
I think i may have got a bit over enthusiastic with the fertilizer regime
still its good to have a back up for over wintering. Next year it will go outside and will be interesting to see how it grows on.

They are quite similar in some ways. I currently have one basjoo with 8 pups around its base and a lasciocarpa with over 20

Let's see what survives the winter and how they grow on.
I would like to get some size on one and be sure of what it is.

Wouldn't want to pass on a pup to anyone so to speak :?
