Just wanted to show something i've done as a half hearted experiment. I was given some Canna warscewiczii seeds by a rather splendid fellow on this site recently and have been itching to get started in growing them. I was doing really well in holding back until next year until i found a rouge seed hat must have fallen out of the packet on the floor in my kitchen.
I'd recently modified my aquarium to allow me to start some biological nitrate removal with some Cyprus which failed this time (i need the roots to be deeper in the tank). I therefore decided to chip and bung the rouge in the aquatic substrait used for aquascaping and see what happned.....this is a week later.

Getting back to the plot, so that was fully submerged for a week at around 25c ?

I am just about to start mine off, i tend to start them at xmas time. This time i am starting them in a bag for a change at around 25 to 30c after chipping and soaking for a couple of days.

No they werent submerged. the base of the aquatic pot rests about an inch in the water at the top of the tank with the remaining 5-6 out but soaking up water by capillary action....the substrate remains wet and warm though the tank water the proximity to the tank lighting.
Seems to have done the trick (fish wise i love my discus but i love my stingrays more ...at the bottom of the picture)

Strange thing about 'rogue' canna seeds. Found 5 underneath my pc desk this week ( doesn't get hoovered often enough)
