Show us your maurelii's
It would be good to see how peoples ensete maurelii's are doing now after they had been stored for winter.
Mine were out in the garden until the end of October, lifted out of their pots, all leaves and roots cut off and stored dry in the loft. They stopped there until end of December then I brought them down, potted in compost and watered every 2 weeks (even with no roots, I still watered)
This is the maurelii's when they came out of the loft. Now 2 months on, they seem to be doing ok. The first leaf on each maurelii was not so good, it was a cut leaf anyway and has some brown patches on but this leaf will be getting removed anyway. The rest of the leaves seem to be ok. I'm thinking about finally getting them out of the house today and planting them outside back in their pots. Hopefully there will be no more frosts.

Re: Show us your maurelii's
I am severely lacking in patience...
It's been growing all winter in the conservatory but I have to keep chopping the leaves off or nothing else would have had any light!
P.S. my fence isn't actually that bent!

I think it is far too early to be planted out, dont be fooled by the mild weather as a harsh frost is still very possible it is only march! One good frost could kill it. Take your time ste. If the leaves get 2 big just cut them off leaving the roller.

Ste yours look great and as they should two months in the warmth of the house. Bit early for planting out imo.
Re: Show us your maurelii's
They have been in the house for 2 months now do another month wouldn't make much difference. I never got chance to plant them out today so do you reckon another month inside would be better?

Re: Show us your maurelii's
You could plant them out tomorrow and they may be ok. Just remember its far colder outside at night time than in the house plus they won't appreciate loads of rain and cold when they are still growing very slowly. Its not like october when they are well rooted and can cope with a light frost.
Re: Show us your maurelii's
That seems to be other thoughts Ste,
I would'nt want to advise you wrong.

Nothing wrong with hardening if off outside while the weather is good but bring back inside at night. Plant out early May or when you think last frost gas passed for your area.
Re: Show us your maurelii's
Yeah, another month or more 'til last frost here. It's coming back in if I feel there's any real danger, which looks like it could be sunday. I definitely wouldn't want to plant it in the ground properly, and I hope it isn't rooting.

Re: Show us your maurelii's
Much too early to plant out, but nothing to stop you putting it outside in a sunny position in it's pot. Then if/when frost is forecast just bring under shelter. Growth in the sun will be better than inside.
Here is a small Ensete Maurelii kept dry in its pot min 6C over winter, with the pot soaked 2 weeks ago, and now growth emerging out of the top. Here is a tiny Ensete Maurelii in a 7cm pot. This was left almost dry over winter at min 6C, and has been soaked several times over the last month.

I'm well chuffed mine has thrown a massive new leaf out. It's going to be a whopper this year.
Re: Show us your maurelii's
Few pics of mine tonight. Been stored in it`s pot over winter in an unheated conservatory. It must have got pretty cold in there on a few nights as the few leaves it did have drooped down and turned brown so i cut all the leaves off. This new growth has appeared in the last few weeks.
